For some engineering students at Tel Aviv University, studying engineering is about launching a startup. For others, it’s about joining Israel’s leading high-tech companies to develop the next generation of technology. And for some, it’s about making a real impact on society. Wherever their passion leads them, these students are shaping the future, one technology, and one project at a time.
Meet Itay Eldar, an Electrical Engineering student who has taken his skills beyond the classroom to tackle real-world challenges. During his studies, he has been working with the People’s Water Data Initiative, helping communities monitor, and improve water quality.
Itay spent time at Chennai University conducting water surveys and designing an off-grid energy system for a UV water filter. As part of a two-month project near Kilimanjaro, Itay as part of a larger team, conducted water quality assessments in rural communities. They developed a training protocol for local women to monitor water quality independently and later compiled solutions from Israeli startups to address the challenges they identified.
Looking ahead, Itay is committed to continuing his work in developing countries; the projects he was involved in brought insights and are invaluable for future efforts. For now, Itay’s focus is on completing his degree. Stay tuned for more inspiring stories of students using technology to make a difference!
